The
Public Policy Group and the
Immigration Policy Lab (IPL) at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, ETH Zurich, are looking for a Research Assistant in Quantitative Social Science.
Project background
This position is part of a collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on a project that develops a measurement tool to support successful migrant integration in Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Peru. In this project, we combine in-depth field work experience with quantitative social science methods to advance our understanding of the drivers and consequences of migration and support migrant integration into host communities.
Job description
Your task
will be to support IOM in the development of a survey-based tool that captures migrant integration and collaborate with IOM throughout the conceptualization, pilot testing and implementation of the tool. In particular, you will assist in consolidating existing literature and in designing sampling strategies to test the validity of the tool. Furthermore, your task will be to conduct data analyses and write reports based on the statistical findings of the pilot tests. As part of a larger project team, you will be closely involved in monitoring and supporting the implementing IOM missions in Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Peru throughout the pilot testing phase.
Your profile
The ideal candidate will, at the time of appointment, be enrolled in or have completed a Master’s degree at a Swiss University in Social Sciences or related study fields. We are looking for an independent and reliable team player with good communication skills and a structured working style. The ability to work effectively as part of a large, diverse team and proficiency in English and Spanish (both written and oral) are essential prerequisites. Research experience in the area of migration and social science methods, as well as flexibility with regard to working hours are a plus. The position is secured for 6 months starting in July 2020, with a possibility of extension of up to a year depending on performance. Working place is Zurich and/or Geneva.
