Organizational Setting

Tasks and responsibilities

•  Collate, analyse and update related document and hydrological - bio-physical information relevant for the management of floods and droughts in the Red River basin;

•  Collating information on the current baseline policies related to climate change adaptation, in particular nature-based adaptation, in the Red River basin;

•  Synthesise information on recent and projected impacts of climate change adaptation in the Red River basin;

•  Contributing, in discussion with other team members and partner institutions, to the recommendation of nature-based solutions in the Red River basin, in particular the selected case study areas;

•  Participation in field visits and workshops as required throughout the PPG process;

•  Advisory support to processes of drafting of project documentation and responses to reviews.

Minimum Requirements

•  Master or specialized degree in a field related to agro-ecology and/or climate change, specifically in Viet Nam;

•  At least 10 years of relevant work experience and understanding of principles and approaches for the integration of water, environmental and social considerations in smallholder-dominated agricultural landscapes;

•  Working knowledge of English, both written and spoken;

•  National of Viet Nam or resident of the country with a valid work permit.

Technical/Functional Skills

•  Knowledge of and familiarity with all relevant agro-ecological developments in Viet Nam;

•  Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with multiple institutional actors in diverse sectors and at diverse levels;

•  Proven capacity to conduct fieldwork and ability to work in teams and establish working relationships central and local government institutions and civil society organizations;

•  Good command of computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Power point, Internet);

•  Strong analytical thinking and interpersonal skills;

•  Good multi-cultural and interpersonal skills with experience in networking with partners in Viet Nam at all levels (Ministries, donors, private sector, NGOs and local community-based organizations);

•  Strong analytical and report writing skills;

•  Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset.
